Dr. Harwitz’s Story
Since 2017, Dr. Harwitz has been the Child and Adolescent Medical Director of the Joseph J. Peters Institute, a non-profit agency providing psychiatric and psychological services for survivors of severe trauma. Prior to this role, he served as the Child and Adolescent Medical Director of the CASTLE Children’s Program in Camden, NJ, a multidisciplinary behavioral health program offering partial hospitalization and outpatient treatment.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Harwitz was the first Child and Adolescent Director of Disaster Psychiatry Outreach, PC, a non-profit organization that collaborated with New York City to provide crisis mental health services at Ground Zero and other locations following the 9/11 attacks. He completed his residency, chief residency, and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City after earning his medical degree from Hahnemann University (now Drexel School of Medicine). Dr. Harwitz, a native Philadelphian, graduated from Central High School and University of Pennsylvania.
