Dr. David Harwitz believes that effective treatment starts with an empathetic and trusting relationship. Known affectionately as “Dr. Dave,” he provides a comfortable and productive space for kids, teens, and young adults to assess and address their emotional and behavioral obstacles, helping them navigate a path forward.
Committed to an integrative model of care, he values collaboration with other providers and team members including parents, caregivers, therapists, school personnel, and other medical professionals.

Dr. Harwitz works with children, teenagers, and young adults confronting a range of conditions and disorders including: anxiety, depression. reactions to trauma, ADHD, and disruptive behaviors. Appointments are available on select weekday evenings and on weekends, and can generally be scheduled within 2-3 weeks. Patients can be seen in person in Center City,Philadelphia and Bala Cynwyd, or virtually. Dr. Harwitz provides treatment on a fee-for-service basis.
Since 2017, Dr. Harwitz has been the Child and Adolescent Medical Director of the Joseph J. Peters Institute, a non-profit agency providing psychiatric and psychological services for survivors of severe trauma. Prior to this role, he served as the Child and Adolescent Medical Director of the CASTLE Children’s Program in Camden, NJ, a multidisciplinary behavioral health program offering partial hospitalization and outpatient treatment. He completed his residency, chief residency, and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City after earning his medical degree from Hahnemann University (now Drexel School of Medicine).
